The provincial government of Banten is set to accelerate the construction of a new toll road linking Serang with Panimbang following a meeting with the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry.
According to Banten governor Rano Karno on Thursday, the project will start by the end of 2016, although the budget had not been discussed yet.
"The project will be funded using the state budget [APBN], but we don't know yet how much funding to prepare, since it's still an early meeting," said Rano as quoted by tempo.co.
Rano said that the Serang-Panimbang toll road would be 84 kilometers long and pass through three regencies in Banten, namely Serang, Pandeglang and Lebak.
The provincial government is currently preparing documents to speed up the development.
"The project will begin with an environmental impact analysis [Amdal], land acquisitions and a tender for the construction contract," added Rano.
According to the head of the ministry's sub-directorate of planning and partnership integration, Triono Junoasmono, the budget will come from the APBN and from investors running the project.
"Those decisions will be made in October," said Triono.
President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has previously promised to build a toll road connecting the Jakarta-Merak toll road with Tanjung Lesung to support its status as a special economic zone (KEK) in the Pandeglang regency. (edn/kes)(++++)
