Sea toll roads, nuclear energy and railway developments in Kalimantan were among the issues discussed during a meeting between Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister Rizal Ramli and the Russian ambassador to Indonesia, Mikhail Y. Galuzin, on Thursday.

"Russia has experience in the gas and energy sector, and is one of the world's biggest gas exporters, exporting to Europe, China and others. Perhaps there are subjects that we can continue [to cooperate on]," said Rizal after the meeting at the ministry's office as quoted by kompas.com.

Rizal said that Russia was also experienced in the maritime sector and that opportunities were open for Indonesia to cooperate with the country in that particular sector.

"The President really wants to build a sea toll road to all regions in Indonesia. We're exploring the possibilities, including plans to build a railway network from Central Kalimantan to East Kalimantan, which has been halted," said Rizal.

Galuzin added that the meeting also discussed issues regarding nuclear energy.

In August, the National Nuclear Energy Agency (BATAN) said it is one step closer to building an experimental nuclear reactor at the Science and Technology Development and Research Center (Puspitek) in Serpong, South Tangerang, after recently meeting with Nukem Technology, a subsidiary of the Russian nuclear company Rosatom in Germany.

According to BATAN deputy chief Taswanda Taryo, Nukem Technology will contribute to the design of the reactor through an Indonesian-Russian consortium called RENUKO, made up of Indonesian and Russian companies, including PT Rekayasa Engineering, PT Kogas Driyap Konsultan and Nukem Technology.
