apanese Chisato Noriji put in a surprise performance at the 2015 Telomoyo Cup international hang gliding competition in Semarang, Central Java, ending the second day of competition in second place in the Race to Goal event on Tuesday.
She conceded a penalty of 1,436 points, trailing favorite Slovenian Primoz Gricar with 1,540 points. Defending champion Grant Heaney of Australia ended the day in third spot with 1,395 points.
2011's world top-rank in the cross-country Heaney said that weak wind and thermals had been real challenges for most pilots in executing their tasks.
Noriji's achievement was hailed as surprise of the day as she could break into the male event.
As many as 52 pilots from Australia, Japan, South Korea, Slovenia and Indonesia are participating in the event at Mount Telomoyo in Banyubiru, Ambarawa, Semarang regency, Central Java.
