The Public Works and Public Housing Ministry has prepared a budget of Rp 2.2 trillion (US$150 million) to develop areas near Indonesia's border with East Timor, especially in Belu regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
"The border areas from the West to the North, from Motaain to Motamasin, are our priorities. We will tear down the current constructions and build new ones that will be better than our neighbor's. We aim to complete the project in 2018," said Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono in Atambua, NTT, on Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.
He added that he hoped the huge budget could enable the project to finish in that short time and that the ministry expected all parties to help monitor progress to ensure that the development ran smoothly.
Basuki stressed that the government was very serious about developing the border areas, as was evidenced by the presence of Home Minister Thahjo Kumolo, Health Minister Nila Jhuwita Moeloek and National Intelligence Agency (BIN) chief Sutiyoso during Wednesday's joint visit. (kes)(++++)
