OGYAKARTA: As many as 50 beach volleyball teams from 15 countries have confirmed their attendance for the Sepanjang Beach Volleyball Asia Pacific Tournament 2015 that will take place in Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta, from Oct. 8-11.
Out of the 50 teams competing, 30 of them are men's teams.
The participating countries include Japan, New Zealand, Australia, Maldives, Lebanon, Oman, India, Thailand, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Singapore and Timor Leste.
'Indonesia will send six men's teams and six women's teams,' said chief organizer Danang Anggoro.
The event, which offers US$40,000 in prize money, will apply a pool system. It is the first international sporting event to be held on Sepanjang beach.
'Indonesia has high ambitions for this tournament because we do have qualified teams, and we have names in international events,' said Danang.
