The first stage of the Tour de Singkarak international cycling race in Pariaman,West Sumatra ended with no winner on Saturday on account of technical issues.

Miscommunication hampered team officials from tailing their cyclists, resulting in organizers having to restart the race several times.

Amid the clutter, the race director decided to scrap winning jerseys for the first stage, which started at Carocok Beach in Painan and ended at Gondoria Beach in Pariaman. Instead, the organizers offered a prize for the fastest rider in the last 10 kilometers of the first stage'€™s pursuit.

'€œWe didn'€™t count times or points in [Saturday'€™s] race. But we also couldn'€™t just scrap the first stage because, as you see, people here are very enthusiastic about this event,'€ race director Sondi Sampurno said after the race as quoted by Antara.

Most riders carried on with the race, despite the errors. However, several teams, including Japan'€™s Aisan Racing Team, quit the first stage.

For Sunday'€™s second stage, Sondi said the race would run as usual.

'€œWe will keep track of times and points based on regulations [in the second stage]. Any rider or team that didn'€™t finish the first stage is welcome to participate in the second stage, which stretches from Padang Pariaman to Solok,'€ he added.
