Greater Jakarta: Ahok opts for black plate for official car

J

akarta Governor Basuki '€œAhok'€ Tjahaja Purnama has said that he changed the color of the plate on his official car from red to black to allow the police to identify it more easily.

Ahok added that changing the plate color would allow him to join presidential convoys. '€œThe police will immediately recognize [that it is my car]. If I keep using a red plate, they might not recognize me, as many people use that color,'€ he said Saturday as quoted by kompas.com.

Ahok'€™s official car is the property of the Jakarta administration. According to police regulations, all vehicles that belong to the government must use a red plate, as a black plate indicates private ownership.

The regulations also stipulate that anyone found guilty of changing a car'€™s plate color may be sentenced with a maximum two months behind bars or Rp 500,000 (US$33) in fines.
