Gelora Bung Karno sports complex
The Youth and Sports Ministry is set to modernize the Gelora Bung Karno sports complex (GBK) as part of the country's preparation to host the 2018 Asian Games.
In addition to revitalizing several parts of the complex to meet international standards, the government will also create supporting facilities to attract visitors.
"We will build a circuit at GBK that will directly connect to the mass rapid transit (MRT) system and add several modern public areas similar to the Los Angeles Stadium, such as restaurants," said Youth and Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi during a meeting with NEC Indonesia at his office on Tuesday as quoted by Antara news agency.
The company, which provides information technology solutions, is seeking to support the ministry in the project.
"We are looking to recommend our Stadium Solution to support Indonesia in becoming the host of the Asian Games 2018, especially in modernizing the stadium and other sport activities," said NEC Indonesia manager Ferra Lilian.
According to Antara news agency, the minister hinted that NEC would join future ministry-level discussions around the event's preparation. (kes)
