resident of Kalideres in West Jakarta was shot on Sunday by a thief attempting to steal his motorcycle from outside his house.
Lim Bui Pab, 52, tried to thwart the theft, carried out by two people, by crying out. The thieves panicked and one of them fired a shot at Lim before they escaped.
'The thieves panicked when Lim caught them in the act. He was then shot and fell,' Sudarsono, a security officer who claims he heard the gunshot, said on Monday as quoted by wartakotalive.com.
Sudarsono works at Citra 3 housing complex, around 100 meters from the victim's house.
'We immediately searched for the source of the cry when we heard it. We went to the victim's house and found the victim on the ground, with the thieves long gone,' Sudarsono said.
Meanwhile, the victim's nephew said that his uncle was being treated in Hermina hospital in Kalideres, adding that the perpetrators had brought their own motorcycle.
'There were two of them. At the time there were only my uncle and his wife at home,' the nephew, who refused to be named, said.
