Eighteen doctors have been gathered by police to identify the victims of the ill-fated Aviastar airplane that went missing since Friday.

"[We have recruited] 12 doctors from the Bhayangkara hospital. The rest will come from other hospitals in Makassar. The group includes forensic doctors and dental forensic specialists," said South and West Sulawesi Police medical and health center head, Sr. Comm'€™r Raden Harjuno, on Tuesday as quoted by tempo.co.

The team is still waiting for the victims to be retrieved and transported from Mount Latimojong in Luwu regency to Makassar.

The plane lost contact with air-traffic controllers 11 minutes after taking off from Masamba in South Sulawesi in good weather on Friday. It was headed for Makassar, the provincial capital, and was carrying three crew members and seven passengers.

After searching for three days, the search and rescue team found the plane on Mt Latimojong in Luwu regency, around 2,700 meters above sea level. Reports say there were no survivors.

The evacuation process is set to be conducted on Tuesday.

According to tempo.co, dozens of ambulances and caskets have been prepared at the Sultan Hasanuddin air base in Makassar. (kes)(++++)
