he Central Jakarta's Menteng District office plans to install six closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems in order to prevent communal brawls.
'We will install the CCTV on two streets ' Jl. Anyer and Jl. Penataran ' so we can monitor activity in those areas,' Menteng District head Yuli 'Lilik' Handayani said on Tuesday.
Lilik said the streets, which are frequently used as playing fields by local residents, would also be closed by using movable concrete barriers in order to prevent residents fighting over use of the streets.
She said she had coordinated with community and neighborhood unit heads in the program.
Lilik added that she had also coordinated with the Communication, Information and Public Relations Agency (Diskominfomas) to install the CCTV, which would be connected to the offices of the district and subdistrict and the local police.
'Besides installing CCTV, we will also reactivate the siskamling [community patrols],' she said, as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
'The Public Order Agency [Satpol PP] will guard the areas. We have around 30 personnel from the city administration, assisted by the police and military officers to stand guard every night,' she said.
