The City Communication and Transportation Agency and the Organization of Land Transportation Owners (Organda) Jakarta on Wednesday launched the Bajai smartphone application (BajaiApp), following the success of several motorcycle taxi applications like Go-Jek and Grab-Bike.
The launching ceremony was held at the Pluit Dam Park in North Jakarta. After the launching ceremony, hundreds of blue BajaiApp vehicles that have been equipped with meters took part in a long drive from the Pluit Dam to the National Monument (Monas) park in Central Jakarta.
Head of the Communication and Transportation Agency Andri Yansyah said that the launching of BajaiApp was aimed at fulfilling the increasing demand for smartphone-based transportation applications.
'The people want fast and easy-to-use services from transportation operators. This launch is to respond the existing demand in society,' said Andri as reported by kompas.com on Wednesday after sending off the BajaiApp procession.
Andri believes that the smartphone-based application will give better and more secure services to their customers because people will be able to order bajai from their houses and their relatives will be able to contact operators should anything happen during the trip.
'With the smartphone application, customers know to whom they have to make an order and if something happens it can easily be tracked,' Andri added. According to Andri, drivers of the Bajai App could also earn a larger salary because it would be easier for them to connect with customers.
Chairman of Organda Jakarta Safruhan Sinungan invited conventional Bajai drivers to join members of the four Bajai driver cooperatives that had already joined the BajaiApp. (bbn)(++++)
