A female-only online ojek service, LadyJek, is now available in Jakarta
A new online motorcycle taxi (ojek) service that caters to female-only passengers is now available in the capital city.
Named LadyJek, the service has started operating on Thursday in Greater Jakarta, with up to 800 female-only drivers currently available.
The fare for the first 6 kilometers is set at Rp 25,000 (US$1.80). For the rest of the ride, the fare is set at Rp 4,000 per kilometer.
"We chose to enter the online ojek service because it involves many people and the market and opportunities are [still] wide open, especially for a niche service such as LadyJek," said Ladyjek founder Brian Mulyadi on Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.
The company plans to recruit more drivers and has prepared offices in Cengkareng, Bekasi and Tangerang.
The application is currently available for the Android platform only. The company plans to release the iOS version next week. (kes)(++++)
