he Transportation Agency has urged ojek (motorcycle taxi) services to remind their drivers to stay off the sidewalks when parked or waiting on passengers.
Traditional ojek drivers as well as drivers from app-based company PT Go-Jek Indonesia are known to occupy sidewalks, often disturbing pedestrians, although it is prohibited.
Transportation Agency head Andri Yansyah said that after a meeting with Go-Jek representatives late on Tuesday, it was agreed that drivers may not wait on passengers on sidewalks. Instead, they may wait along neighborhood roads.
'Go-Jek drivers may wait on passengers along neigh-borhood roads. If they want to establish a Go-Jek base, they must receive approval from the RT [neighborhood unit] and RW [community unit],' Andri said, as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
Separately, Go-Jek CEO Nadiem Makarim said he would inform all drivers in the company and would give warning letters to those that failed to comply.
