he City Council has asked Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja to optimize the city budget for development instead of relying on corporate social responsibility funds (CSR) from private firms.
Council deputy speaker Triwisaksana, also known as Sani, of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) said that the city administration should use its tax revenues, which are collected from residents, to develop the city.
Sani also pointed out that it was difficult to track and monitor CSR funds, and said that CSR came with interest payment obligations.
Ahok has been known to rely on CSR from private firms for a number of projects. For example, many integrated child-friendly community centers (RPTRA) are funded through CSR from a number of firms, including PT Astra International, PT Pembangunan Jaya and PT Gajah Tunggal, among many others.
'We have our own budget so we should not rely so heavily on CSR funds,' Sani said at the City Council building on Thursday.
