National scene: Lawmaker denies stealing documents

I

ndonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) lawmaker Masinton Pasaribu denied on Thursday that he stole documents that gave details on the gratuity paid by president director of state-owned seaport operator PT Pelindo II, RJ Lino, to State-owned Enterprises (SOE) Minister Rini Soemarno.

Masinton maintained his innocence after a questioning session at the National Police headquarters following a defamation report he filed against RJ Lino'€™s lawyer, Frederich Yunadi, who insinuated that Masinton had obtained the document illegally.

The PDI-P politician denied the accusation, maintaining that he got the documents from watchdog groups that called themselves '€œRaja Lino'€.

'€œI am [a member of] the House of Representatives, the people'€™s representative. I often receive information, reports and complaints from the people, which I then forward to relevant institutions, including the law enforcement agencies,'€ Masinton said.

He was quick to add that the original documents had been submitted to the police investigators who questioned him.
