State-owned electricity firm PLN has guaranteed that a 30 percent discount for industries, which used electricity from night until morning, would be in effect for three years as part of the third economic policy package announced by the government on Wednesday.

The incentive will be given to medium- to large-scale businesses that use more than 200 kilovolt-ampere (kVA) and user power between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m.

According to PLN's commercial division head, Benny Marbun, the incentive would allow industries to add investments by purchasing production equipment and avoiding layoffs.

In addition to tariff discounts, PLN also offers leniency in bill payments and a reduction of electricity tariffs for non-subsidized customers according to the adjustment scheme following the decline in global oil prices.

"The reduction of electricity tariffs, no matter how small, is positive for businesses. Amid the slowdown of the economy, all policies that enable industries to lessen their costs will help them survive," said Benny on Friday as quoted by kompas.com.

PLN currently has 12,333 customers from industries that use more than 200 kVA; 79 of them are large-scale businesses that use more than 30,000 kVA. (kes)(++++)
