ORONTALO: The clean water crisis in Gorontalo regency, Gorontalo province, has spread to all 19 districts as the drought that began earlier this year continues.
'Earlier this month, the drought and clean water crisis spread to all districts in the regency,' Gorontalo Regency Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) head Doni Lahatie said on Friday as quoted by Antara news agency.
Doni said that as of last month, only 11 districts had suffered from the impact of this year's extended dry season, supposedly triggered by the El Niño weather phenomenon.
All districts in Gorontalo, according to Doni, have shown indications of drought, including lowered water levels in local rivers and decreased ground water supply.
To help local residents survive the crisis, Doni said that his agency had been intensively distributing clean water to affected areas.
