Fadli Zon
Deputy House speaker Fadli Zon said on Tuesday he did not attend a meeting with the House's Ethics Council [MKD] because the letter summoning him was "unclear".
Fadli, a politician from the Gerindra Party, said that he had sent a letter to the MKD asking about the summons and the issues that they wanted to clarify.
"The letter did not mention the matter of the [summons]. The Law stipulates that a summons must list a specific matter. The MKD cannot just do as they wish," he said as reported by Antara news agency.
Fadli claimed that the MKD's handling of the case was politically charged.
"The MKD is exaggerating. Junimart Girsang is a political rival; he is looking for a stage. The council needs to study the law first," Fadli said referring to council member Junimart Girsang, a lawmaker from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).
He said that he is not afraid of the MKD's threat that the police would force him to attend the summons.
The MKD on Monday scheduled the summons of Fadli and House Speaker Setya Novanto over their presence at an event held by US presidential hopeful Donald Trump last month. Both lawmakers failed to appear at the summons. (rin)(++++)
