he Jakarta Transportation Agency has said it will impose sanctions on app-based motorcycle taxi drivers (ojek) who wait for customers by parking their motorcycles on sidewalks in Jakarta.
The agency's operational director, Maruli Tua Sijabat, said that his agency would immediately confiscate the drivers' motorcycles if they were found parking on the sidewalks because their actions violated the city's regulation No. 8/2007 on public order.
'We will confiscate their [the drivers'] motorcycles because they have violated regulations on public order,' Maruli said Monday as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
Maruli said that sidewalks in Central Jakarta had become spots where these drivers parked their motorcycles. They were normally seen parking on sidewalks around Pasar Baru, Jl. Jayakarta, Grand Indonesia, Benhil Market, Palmerah station and sidewalks along Jl. Mh Thamrin, according to Maruli.
'It is actually allowed if they just stop for a moment while waiting for customers. What is not allowed is if they park their motorcycles in a group. This action violates regulations,' he said.
