Police suspect multiple perpetrators in Cakung murder

T

he East Jakarta Police say that they have questioned a number of witnesses in the murder of a mother and son in Cakung, East Jakarta, adding that the murder likely involved more than one perpetrator.

'€œThe victims were possibly killed by more than one person, indicated by the wounds that they sustained,'€ said East Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Umar Faroq on Monday.

He explained that the mother, Dayu Priamberita, 45, had five stab wounds in her back and some lacerations on her hands and face while the son, Yuel Maheswara Lekson, 5, sustained three stab wounds in his neck.

The police alleged that Dayu fought back when the murderers attacked her and her son.

Dayu and Yuel were found dead in their house on Thursday afternoon by Dayu'€™s husband and Yuel'€™s father, Heno Pujo Leksono, 48, who had just returned home from work as a windowsill producer in Bekasi.

According to Umar, the police had questioned all related witnesses, including Heno. The investigation confirmed that Heno was still at his workplace between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., the estimated time of the murder.

The couple'€™s two older children were out of town at the time of the murder.

He added that the police had found closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage that could help their investigation. The CCTV was installed in a narrow road that the police'€™s K-9 detectives believe might have been used as the suspects'€™ escape track.

Previously, Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Tito Karnavian said that the murder was unlikely related to violent robbery as the police had not found any of the family'€™s belongings missing. Both Dayu and Yuel were also unlikely to have been the victims of sexual assault as they were found fully clothed.

'€œThere is a very low probability that this crime is a sex crime or a violent robbery. We are currently examining other motives,'€ Tito said, adding that they had questioned at least 10 witnesses as of last Friday.

Tito said that the police suspected that a personal motive, such as revenge, debt, or love affair, had inspired the murder.

On the same Friday, Umar explained that Dayu and Yuel were likely the victims of premeditated murder by someone they knew because the police did not find an indication of breaking and entering. The suspects seemed to be familiar with the house'€™s condition, as well as an amenable time to execute the murder.

Furthermore, there were no signs that the victims had been silenced or tied-up before. The neighbors also did not hear any screams or loud voices at the moment they were killed. (agn)
