Hanura Party politician Miryam S Haryani says that her party is waiting for confirmation of reports from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) of the arrest of a Hanura lawmaker, identified by the initials DYL.

'€œWe are going to wait for official confirmation from the KPK,'€ she said as quoted by Antara news agency in Jakarta on Wednesday.

KPK investigators have reportedly caught a Hanura Party lawmaker red-handed taking part in bribery, which if true, Miryam explained, would end that person'€™s association with the Hanura Party.

'€œThe standard operating procedure clearly states that any [member of Hanura] named a suspect, must resign. Otherwise, their party membership would be revoked because they'€™d have reneged on their oath of allegiance to the party,'€ said Miryam.

Antara news agency reported that the Hanura Party executive board had held an internal meeting on Tuesday evening to respond to the reports of a lawmaker'€™s arrest.

Miryam confirmed that the meeting took place but said that Hanura chairman Wiranto did not attend the meeting, only giving instructions via text messaging and phone calls.

Head of the Hanura Party faction at the House of Representatives, Nurdin Tampubolon, could confirm that a party lawmaker with initials DYL had been arrested by KPK investigators on Tuesday.

'€œYes, [DYL] has been arrested, but for what case, I still don'€™t know,'€ said Nurdin as quoted by kompas.com at the House complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday evening.

He further said Wiranto had instructed other faction members to investigate the major reasons for the lawmaker'€™s arrest. So far, Nurdin claimed, he could not contact DYL or the KPK.

KPK acting chairman Indriyanto Seno Adji announced the arrest via text message, saying that KPK investigators made an arrest in Jakarta on Tuesday evening.

'€œ['€¦] there was an operation, during which we caught red-handed six or seven people, including a House member,'€ he said.

Indriyanto refused to disclose the identity of the House member, saying only that the KPK was investigating the lawmaker closely at the anti-graft body headquarters. (erk/ebf)
