Former NasDem Party secretary-general Patrice Rio Capella has dropped his pretrial motion lodged with the South Jakarta District Court against the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Friday.
The KPK did not attend the first session for the motion before sole judge I Ketut Tirta.
The judge read a letter from the KPK that requested for the pretrial to be postponed for two weeks.
However, Patrice's attorney Maqdir Ismail announced that his client was revoking the pretrial request as he had heard that KPK investigators had completed his case dossier.
"If the trial of the case is held next week then the pretrial motion will be automatically cancelled according to the law," he said as quoted by newsportal kompas.com on Friday.
However, Judge Ketut said the withdrawal of the pretrial motion must be done through an administrative session attended by both parties. That session will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 4.
Maqdir said that he and his client were ready to face the KPK in the Corruption Court.
He claimed that the KPK was in a rush to put together its case against his client.
"I think they rushed to complete the dossiers because they knew they would lose in the pretrial motion," he said.
The KPK named Patrice a suspect in a bribery case related to another graft case involving suspended North Sumatra governor Gatot Pujo Nugroho and his wife Evy Susanti. Prominent lawyer OC Kaligis was also named a suspect by the KPK in the related graft case alongside Gatot and Evy. (rin)
