Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputy chief Adnan Pandu Praja said on Monday that the antigraft body's legal bureau division was still examining whether it would offer former NasDem Party secretary general Patrice Rio Capella the chance to be a justice collaborator in a bribery case in which he has been named a suspect.
'We are still waiting for the results of the legal bureau's examination process. They are still examining whether Patrice is qualified to be a justice collaborator,' Adnan said at the KPK headquarters in Jakarta on Monday.
The KPK suspect Patrice of receiving unlawful gifts in connection with a case being investigated by the Attorney General's Office involving suspicious regional funding disbursements, revenue sharing and capital injections provided for several province-owned enterprises in North Sumatra.
Through Muspani, one of his lawyers, Patrice confirmed on a written statement on Friday that he was ready to become a justice collaborator in the case. The NasDem politician stated his readiness after he dropped his pretrial motion request he had submitted with the South Jakarta District Court against the KPK's decision to name his a suspect.
Adnan said another point that the KPK was still examining was whether the naming of Patrice as a justice collaborator would benefit the anti-graft body in its investigation into the case.
Earlier, another of Patrice's lawyers, Maqdir Ismail, said it would be possible for the NasDem politician to receive a lighter punishment if he agreed to become a justice collaborator. (ebf)
