Graft suspect Dewie Yasin Limpo, a House of Representatives member from the Hanura Party faction, has kept quiet over her alleged involvement in a bribery attempt relating to the construction of a microhydro power plant in Deiyai regency, Papua.

The politician'€™s lawyer, Samuel Hendrik, told reporters that Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators questioned his client over nine hours at the antigraft body'€™s headquarters in Jakarta on Monday. The questioning covered matters related to the lawmaker'€™s responsibilities and functions as a member of House Commission VII overseeing energy.

'€œThey raised general questions in today'€™s questioning. They haven'€™t yet entered into substantive matters,'€ said Samuel.

Dewie arrived at the KPK headquarters at 10:13 a.m. and left the building at 07:43 p.m. She refused to respond to journalists'€™ questions and instead asked them to talk to her lawyer.

Samuel said Dewie was scheduled to undergo further questioning next week.

Dewie is accused of accepting a bribe of S$177,700 (US$127,500) in relation to the construction of the microhydro power plant.

The case was revealed when KPK investigators caught Dewie'€™s private secretary Rinelda Bandaso and four other people red-handed at a restaurant in Kelapa Gading, Jakarta, on Oct. 20. They group comprised two businessmen, Septiadi and Hari, Septiadi'€™s employee Depianto and the head of Deiyai'€™s mining agency, Iranius. A rental-car driver was also taken into custody.

After the initial arrest, KPK investigators apprehended Dewie and her expert staff member Bambang Wahyu Hadi at Terminal 2F of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport at 7 p.m. on the same day. It is suspected that the attempted bribery was related to the inclusion of the power plant project in the 2016 state budget plan (RAPBN). (ebf)
