he city administration agreed on Wednesday to cooperate with Finland in various sectors, including wastewater treatment.
The agreement was made after a closed-door meeting between Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama and Finnish President Sauli Niinisto at City Hall.
'We will cooperate in wastewater treatment, specifically in the Pluit Reservoir [in North Jakarta],' Ahok told reporters after the meeting.
Ahok pointed out that Finland had explored and developed advanced technologies in wastewater treatment, including turning wastewater into reusable clean water. Finland, along with other Nordic countries, has gained a reputation for using renewable sources such as biomass and wind to meet its energy needs.
He said that the city administration would appoint city-owned developer PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) to cooperate with business entities from Finland.
'Further discussions will be held business-to-business,' Ahok said. He added that the city administration also sought to cooperate with Finland in waste treatment and electric buses for city-owned bus operator PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta).
