A tribute to Teguh Karya, one of the country's most prominent film directors, is set to be the highlight of the 2015 Indonesian Film Festival (FFI).

Born Steve Liem Tjoan Hok on Sept. 22, 1937, in Pandeglang, Banten, Teguh was widely known for his direction of acclaimed Indonesian films such as Badai Pasti Berlalu (The Storm will Pass), Pacar Ketinggalan Kereta (Sweetheart Missed the Train), Cinta Pertama (First Love) and November 1828. He passed away in 2001 from complications caused by a stroke.

According to this year's FFI committee head Olga Lydia, there will be a special segment at the festival's main event to commemorate Teguh and his works.

'€œSome of his notable films are scheduled to be screened at Taman Ismail Marzuki in Cikini on Nov. 15 to 20,'€ said Olga during a discussion about the festival on Wednesday.

'€œWe feel that today's generation needs to learn and know more about Teguh Karya and all his great work. As his successors, we also owe him gratitude for his invaluable contribution to Indonesia's film industry,'€ added Olga.

Veteran actor and director Slamet Rahardjo, who participated in the discussion, reminisced about memorable moments from his years of working closely with Teguh.

'€œFrom Steve [Teguh's nickname], I learned how to love and be passionate about whatever I do,'€ said Slamet.

Through his role in one of Teguh's films, Di Balik Kelambu (Under the Mosquito Net), both he and Teguh received Citra Awards in 1983, for Best Actor and Best Director, respectively.

Veteran actress Niniek L. Karim said that Teguh's style as a director brought out the best in everyone involved in his films.

'€œDespite his explosive emotional nature, Teguh always radiated a positive vibe and had a unique way of maintaining all his actors and crew as one big family,'€ Niniek said.

FFI is slated to announce the winners of the Citra Awards 2015 on Nov. 23 at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) in BSD City, Banten. This year's event will reportedly involve a selection panel of 100 people including directors, actors, cinematographers, scriptwriters, producers and film critics to choose the winners through an online voting system.
