Vice President Jusuf Kalla has denied that President Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo will replace Attorney General HM Prasetyo, who has been implicated in a corruption case allegedly involving former NasDem Party secretary-general Patrice Rio Capella.

Kalla said on Friday that Prasetyo, who is also former NasDem politician, has performed well during his one year in the office.

Patrice is accused of accepting Rp 200 million (US$14,706) from Evi Susanti, the wife of suspended North Sumatra governor Gatot Pujo Nugroho, who said in a court hearing that the money was given to Patrice as compensation so that Rio would talk to Prasetyo about Gatot'€™s case.

NasDem Party chairman Surya Paluh strongly denied any connection between the Patrice corruption case and Prasetyo.

'€œI say no. You are confused by rumors,'€ said Kalla in Jakarta on Friday when he was asked to clarify public speculation about the attorney general being replaced, as reported by kompas.com.

According to Kalla, he and President Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo had never talked about replacing any ministers, including Attorney General Prasetyo.

Previously, National Mandate Party (PAN) politician Muslim Ayub said his party had been told by President Jokowi to submit names of people they wanted to nominate to become ministers.

Ayub said that PAN submitted five names that were projected, among other positions, to become attorney general and law and human rights minister. Ayub speculated that President Jokowi wanted new people in the positions. '€œIt is not final yet: maybe the law and human rights minister and the attorney general,'€ he added. (bbn)
