Human Development and Culture Coordinating Minister Puan Maharani
Amid public criticism of the poor performance of Human Development and Culture Coordinating Minister Puan Maharani, Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) deputy chairman Andreas Hugo Pareira has defended her, saying her performance is above the average of other ministers.
Therefore, he said, Puan, who is a daughter of PDI-P chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri, should not be included on the list of the ministers who need to be replaced.
'Puan is above the average. There is no reason to replace her,' said Andreas at an event to discuss President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo's next reshuffle plan in Jakarta on Saturday, as reported by kompas.com.
According to Andreas, Puan's job directly touches human interest issues like the Indonesian Health Card (KIS) program, for which she visited people who need the government's health program.
Andreas also claimed that a Poltracking survey that showed people's satisfaction with President Jokowi's program on healthcare indicated that Indonesian people were satisfied with Puan's performance.
Meanwhile, Poltracking executive director Hanta Yudha said that based on the survey health care is among the programs that were appreciated by the public. Therefore, as the coordinating minister who was overseeing the sector, the opinions about Puan's performance were also enhanced. (bbn)
