South Sumatra will hold a coffee festival in Palembang at the end of this month to promote the signature coffee of the province.
The festival will be held in Kuto Besak Fort to promote one of the main commodities of the province, South Sumatra culture and tourism office chief Irene Camalyn said on Monday as reported by state news agency Antara.
Irene said South Sumatra is one of the nation's prominent coffee producing areas, with well-known blends including Semendo from the Muaraenim district.
According to Irene, coffee from South Sumatra is of very high quality and has a distinct energizing aroma, however, domestic and international promotions have left much to be desired.
The festival is also being held to promote South Sumatra as a tourist destination and boost small and medium scale enterprises, especially those selling powdered coffee.
Attaining a World Heritage listing for Palembang's songket, a type of traditional woven cloth, is another aim of the festival. (rin)(+)
