The Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) will not publish a video of a questioning of Jakarta Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama by auditors on Monday in connection with the procurement of land for a cancer hospital in West Jakarta.
'[The video tape] cannot be published. It is part of the investigation,' BPK spokesman Yudi Ramdan said in Jakarta on Tuesday as reported by tribunnews.com.
Earlier on Tuesday, Ahok challenged the BPK to publish the video of his questioning. "I challenge the BPK to publish the video publically. The public can decide for themselves whether [the audit] is tendentious or not," he said.
Ahok was questioned in connection with a report on the city's Rp 775.7 billion ($55 million) purchase of a 3.7-hectare plot of land for a cancer hospital in 2014. The BPK claims the price was inflated, but Ahok denied that any mark-up occurred in the land procurement.
Yudi meanwhile denied that that the audit had a political agenda, stressing that the auditors had done their jobs professionally.
'The auditors have done their jobs the same as when they have audited other institutions,' he said, adding that the results of the investigation would be conveyed to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
The questioning was part of an audit investigation demanded by the KPK in connection with alleged wrongdoing in the land procurement. The BPK has extended the investigation process from 60 to 80 days in order to collect more data about the case. (bbn)
