he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has called on National Police chief Gen. Badrodin Haiti to halt the investigation into a senior officer Novel Baswedan in an assault case that was reopened by the police during a standoff between the two law enforcement agencies earlier this year.
The antigraft body made the call following the National Police announcement that police investigators working on Novel's case are set to send the case dossiers to the Attorney General's Office (AGO).
Novel's case was not among several cases implicating high-ranking KPK officials that were dropped by the National Police when it reached a peace agreement with the KPK in March, two months after the antigraft body declared then-National Police deputy chief Comr. Gen. Budi Gunawan a bribery suspect.
KPK deputy chairman Zulkarnaen said that there was still enough time for the National Police to review the case in light of the improved situation between the two institutions following the truce.
'I hope that the case will be dropped as it emerged during a situation that was not normal. We will try to talk [to the National Police about the call],' Zulkarnen said.
Police investigators invited Novel to come to the National Police headquarters on Monday, Novel did not meet the summons.
Novel's lawyer Asfinawati said that Novel could not meet the police summons as he is currently performing umrah, a minor haj, in Saudi Arabia.
'KPK commissioners have informed the National Police about it,' Asfinawati said on Sunday.
