National Police chief Gen. Badrodin Haiti has warned incumbent candidates not to politicize civil servants in their attempts to win regional elections on Dec. 9.
'Don't drag the bureaucracy into politics. Civil servants should remain neutral as ruled by law,' said Badrodin as reported by Antara news agency in Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Tuesday.
He said that like members of the military and the police, civil servants should maintain their neutrality in elections and incumbent candidates should not abuse their power for political interests.
'As an example, incumbents cannot issue instructions for civil servants to mobilize people to support them in the upcoming elections,' he said, warning that the bureaucracy was a well-structured organization that could easily be mobilized.
Regional elections will be held simultaneously in 224 regencies and 36 municipalities across nine provinces.
Badrodin said the police had anticipated possible disruptions to the elections. 'All security officers have maintain their solidity so that they can anticipate to any possible disruption to the organization of the regional elections,' he added. (bbn)
