overnor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama says he will report to the police any firms that damage sidewalks.
Many firms, including water and telecommunications operators, often rip up sidewalks to dig the land underneath to fix cables and pipes.
However, instead of repairing or returning the sidewalks to their original state, many firms often reassemble the pavements in a slapdash manner causing difficulties for pedestrians.
'We will report them to the police for damaging public facilities so they'll learn their lesson. We're currently drafting letters to report several firms,' Ahok told reporters at City Hall on Tuesday.
He said that next year, the city administration would begin to develop sidewalks using concrete which could absorb water and prevent puddles forming.
