he National Police detective division questioned Fahmi Zulfikar and M. Firmansyah, member and former member, respectively, of the Jakarta City Council, on Tuesday in relation to suspected corruption in the procurement of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) units for city schools.
National Police spokesperson Brig. Gen. Agus Rianto said the police hoped that both Fahmi and Firmansyah would provide investigators with useful information.
'I hope our investigators will get sufficient information from them,' Agus told reporters.
Earlier this year, Jakarta Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama found various irregularities in the 2014 budget that had been passed by the city council.
The irregularities included the procurement of UPS units for dozens of state schools in West and Central Jakarta. The allocation for the UPS in each school amounted to as much as Rp 6 billion (US$445,810) per unit
The division's corruption sub-directorate I head Sr. Comr. Adi Deriyan said the division had no plan to detain the suspects.
Previously the National Police named two civil servants as suspects in the case, former infrastructure section head of the West Jakarta Education Agency, Alex Usman and former head of the Central Jakarta Education Agency, Zainal Soleman.
Alex is currently on trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court, while Zainal's dossiers were submitted to prosecutors on Oct. 2.
