New Flash: Govt testing teachers'€™ competency

T

he government is currently conducting a teachers'€™ competency test across the country to assess the quality of educational manpower. The testing program commenced on Nov. 9 and will run until Nov. 29.

'€œThe teachers'€™ competency test is participated in by 3,015,315 officially registered teachers across the archipelago,'€ said Sumarna Surapranata, director general for teachers and educationalstaff at the Ministry of Education and Culture.

'€œOnly 38 regencies and cities hold the test offline, while 532 regencies and cities conduct the test online. Hopefully, teachers will train themselves on how to use a computer, so that they won'€™t feel awkward when facing the online test,'€ he said.

Every teacher is expected to join the competency test once, with test materials taken from the lessons that they teach daily.

The test results will form the basis of a teacher training program that the government plans to run in the future. '€œBased on the data, it is expected that the program will reach its aims,'€ he said.
