Your comments on the investigation by the House'€™s ethics council into House Speaker Setya Novanto'€™s alleged brokering of a deal with gold miner PT Freeport Indonesia, which is seeking an extension to its contract of work:

The hearing will embarrass us in front of our Papuan brothers and sisters '€” the House is examining the wealth of their land, while native Papuans live in poverty.

Of course the public are skeptical, not only of the probe into Setya'€™s case, but many other cases implicating lawmakers.

The public already knows from past experience the results of such a probe.

None of the statements made by Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Luhut Panjaitan have anything to do with the situation. He talks nonsense.

This will be the case that determines whether Indonesia falls into the gutter or survives and prospers.

I think the House of Representatives'€™ ethics council should be transparent and the hearing held open to the public and media to ensure it remains free from political intervention.

I trust the council to have the courage to enforce the law; what Setya Novanto did with Freeport Indonesia'€™s boss has humiliated the nation and all Indonesians.

And I believe such misconduct is against the Corruption Law. I am among the many citizens who are proud of Pak Sudirman Said and his decision to file a report on the speaker'€™s misconduct to the ethics council.

In the first place, Setya Novanto, in his capacity as House speaker, has no business brokering a deal with Freeport.

Freeport Indonesia should strive at better business transactions to ensure better business longevity.

It is high time that a good and proper deal went ahead with no monkey business.

Beware, the whole world is watching with care!

I fear Setya Novanto will reiterate his arrogance by not showing up to the hearing, as he did in the wake of his controversial meeting with US presidential hopeful Donald Trump.

There are many reasons he could employ to dodge the hearing, such as poor health or other commitments.

Indonesia eyeing AEC

Indonesia, along with with nine other ASEAN member countries signed the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, an agreement that will allow the region'€™s competitive products to circulate in a single market. Besides that, labor liberalization will also begin in certain sectors. What is your opinion on these developments and will Indonesia be able to take advantage of the single market?
