n a bid to prepare his district for the upcoming rainy season, Kramajati district head Kusumawati said Wednesday she had deployed a team to clean up trash from the Hek sluice gate in Kramatjati, East Jakarta.
Kusumawati said the team, consisting of 55 officials from the Infrastructure and Public Facility Maintenance Agency (PPSU) and the East Jakarta Water Management Agency had collected three tons of garbage, adding that she also used a backhoe to collect the trash.
'There are 15 cubic meters of trash, equal to three tons. We have delivered all of it to the Bantar Gebang landfill in Bekasi [West Java],' she said as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
Juki, a local resident, said water levels at the sluice gate had increased on Tuesday night and inundated a nearby street on Wednesday morning, carrying a lot of litter.
'Fortunately, the water did not reach the neighborhood area, but the trash was brought by the water to the street,' she said.
