Mayang Ariesti
Family and friends of 16-year-old Mayang Ariesti were shocked to find she had committed suicide, having posted a series of melancholic status updates beforehand on social-networking site Facebook.
Mayang, an 11th grade student at SMAN 7 Pontianak state senior high school, was found dead in her room at 5:30 a.m. on Monday.
She had been sharing her personal issues on her Facebook account, which was open for the public to view, writing about the problems she was experiencing with her boyfriend whom she suspected was cheating on her.
'Seems like there really is another girl. Maybe he's tired and that's why he doesn't have any time left for me,' wrote Mayang in her final status update, posted on Nov. 22.
Her school teacher Evi W, who was devastated by the news of Mayang, confirmed to reporters that her former student had hanged herself.
'She was a cheerful child and did well enough at school. She was always open and chatty with her friends,' said Evi on Monday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Tawanmangu district Police head First Adj. Commissioner Kartyana said that Mayang had also left a suicide note addressed to her family and friends where she apologized for taking her own life. The victim was the sixth child from a family of seven children.
According to police, Mayang's former boyfriend was also shocked at the news because he and Mayang had still been talking at 9 p.m. the night before. (dan)(+)
