MPR Assessment Agency ready to amend the Constitution

Bambang Sadono.

People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Assessment Agency head Bambang Sadono has said his agency is ready with a collection of drafts and supporting documents for the amendment of the Constitution (UUD) should the government reach a political agreement in 2016 or 2017.

'€œThe Assessment Agency has material on hand for perfecting the Constitution,'€ Bambang said during a seminar on the implementation of Pancasila values at a national development planning event on Nov. 18 in Jakarta.

In his opening remarks, Bambang said that the Assembly has been working together with various universities in order to promote the four pillars of the MPR.

Bambang, who is a Regional Representative Council (DPD) member and leader of the DPD faction in the MPR, explained that this was not the first seminar of its kind. He said that this type of event aimed to inspire society to continuously improve on the implementation of the Constitutional in Indonesia.

To carry out this task properly, the Assessment Agency has formed five groups with each assigned to a specific field. Each group will review issues related to Pancasila, the strengthening of the MPR, the Presidential system and the structure of the Constitutional Court (MK), the Supreme Court (MA) and Judicial Commission (KY).

The review of the Presidential system will look at, among other things, revitalizing state policy guidelines (GBHN) and the strengthening of DPDs.

According to Bambang, the MPR has received suggestions from the public for the GBHN to be made according to provision of the MPR in order to increase the authority of the Assembly.(+)
