Your letters: Sectarian conflicts

M

r. Gordon Freeman gave us a very good history lesson, but it is completely one-sided. He forgets to tell us about the many Christian crusades into the Middle East. These where instigated by the Catholic Church for power and wealth.

The first crusades in 1099 killed thousands of Muslims and Jews. It was reported when they stormed Jerusalem that the streets were rivers of blood. Not only did the crusaders behead men, women and children, they also chopped off their arms and legs.

After two or three days the streets where strewn with body parts decaying in the summer heat. The surviving Muslims where ordered to clean up and burn the bodies, then, when it was finished, they where thrown onto the fire.

If Mr. Freemen looks into Islamic history he will find that on many occasions Muslims gave the enemy a chance to surrender. After that they had a choice, either convert to Islam or pay a yearly tax. Nobody was slaughtered.
