he North Jakarta Police said on Monday that they had arrested a man accused of stabbing another during a fight in a night club in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, last week.
North Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Susetio Cahyadi said the police had arrested the suspect, identified as Tenda Hermanto Wijaya, 21, after he escaped and hid for five days after the assault.
The victim, Alip, 18, died on site after being stabbed in the stomach and neck by a man at the club on Saturday night last week.
According to Susetio, Tenda, a security officer at a restaurant in Central Jakarta and a resident of Kudus, Central Java, stabbed Alip several times, the latter dying shortly afterwards.
'The stabbing was an escalation from a minor incident. The two accidentally brushed against each other as they were dancing, then insulted one another, leading to the fight,' Susetio said on Monday as quoted by tribunnews.com.
'Tenda is in the habit of bringing a knife with him [to the club] because his mother owns the club,' he said, adding that the suspect would be charged with Article 338 of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years behind bars.
