Egyptians are leading in the measure of the growth rate of foreign nationals visiting Indonesia between January and October this year, according to recent data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and the Tourism Ministry.

During that period, the number of Egyptian tourists to Indonesia grew by 22.48 percent, Chinese tourists by 18.85 percent, British by 15.38 percent, Indian by 10.38 percent and German by 7.35 percent.

"The number of foreign visitors between January and October has approached our target, which is 8.1 million. We are optimistic that we'll able to achieve our total target of 10 million foreigners by late December 2015," said Tourism Ministry Arief Yahya in a press release on Wednesday.

Several events scheduled to take place in major destinations like Bali, Jakarta and Batam between October and December are expected to attract even more foreign visitors to the country.

According to Arief, Indonesia registered higher tourism growth between January and October 2015 than Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam, which all recorded negative growth of -9.4 percent, -0.3 percent and -4.1 percent, respectively.

"Indonesia registered positive growth of up to 3.38 percent during the period, which brought the total up to 8,017,589 foreigners. Meanwhile, Thailand recorded the highest growth with 24.7 percent," said Arief. (kes)
