After a week of mass uproar, the suspect in Surabaya'€™s fatal Lamborghini crash that killed one man and badly-injured two others, has been sent to prison while police conduct further investigations into the case.

Surabaya Police spokesperson Lily Djafar said that the suspect, with initials WL, was transferred from hospital to prison after undergoing identification, finger printing and a form-filling process. The police are only allowing him to leave jail for investigation purposes.

"All prisoners are treated indiscriminately, in accordance with procedure," said Lily to the press, as quoted by Antara news agency on Saturday.

The 24 years old suspect was transferred from the hospital in a patrol car. Having arrived at the police station, WL underwent the usual process for detainees, such as body inspection.

WL, a resident of Dharmahusada Surabaya, was involved in a car crash on the morning of Nov. 29, which took the life of Kuswanto, 41. The deceased'€™s wife, Srikanti, 41, was also injured along with Mujianto, 44, a street vendor of a traditional milk-based energy drink.

The Lamborghini, driven by WL, was reportedly speeding before losing control and hitting the vendor'€™s stall and the people around it. The police have been checking CCTV footage that purportedly shows a red Ferrari following the same route as the Lamborghini at around the same time.

Tribunnews.com reported, quoting an eyewitness, that the Lamborghini and the red Ferrari were seen at 5 a.m. in front of a KFC outlet, around 500 meters from the location of the incident.

They allegedly started the race, revving their engines at 5.20 a.m., not long before the incident, said an eyewitness named Suparto, 51.

Meanwhile, kompas.com reported that Surabaya transportation CCTV systems show the Ferrari cruising alone before the incident, at 4.57 a.m.

After the incident, the Ferrari was seen stopped for a while at a nearby intersection, before turning back to Jl. Kertajaya.

"The police have summoned the Ferrari driver, named Bambang," said a spokesperson for the Surabaya Police traffic unit Adhika Ginanjar Widhisana as quoted by kompas.com. (ags)
