outh Tangerang General Elections Commission (KPUD) declared on Thursday incumbent pair Airin Rachmi Diany-Benyamin Davnie the winner of the city'€™s mayoral election after a final vote count.

KPUD Tangsel said the pair had garnered more than 50 percent of the vote.

According to the recapitulation results, Airin and Benyamin won the mayoral election held on Dec. 9 in a solid victory after gaining 304,912 votes (59.62 percent), followed by Arsid and Elvier Ariadiannie Soedarto Poetri with 164,563 votes (32.18 percent). Ikhsan Modjo and Li '€œAlin'€ Claudia Chandra were at the bottom with only 41,987 votes, 8.21 percent of the vote.

The results also showed that Airin and Benyamin won in all seven districts in South Tangerang '€” Ciputat, East Ciputat, Pamulang, Pondok Aren, Serpong, North Serpong and Setu '€” with an average of more than 50 percent of the vote in each district.

The results further showed voter turnout of 57.98 percent, with 533,444 of 920,115 eligible voters casting their ballots on election day.

'€œWe are thankful that we were able to finish the recapitulation today, as planned,'€ said KPUD head Muhammad Subhan.

He further said that KPUD was preparing in case losing candidates lodged lawsuits over the results. Lawsuits should be filed within three days after vote recapitulation.

Previously, pairs Arsid-Elvier and Ikhsan-Alin said that they would jointly file a lawsuit with the Constitutional Court demanding the election results be annulled and a revote be held without the incumbent pair.

They claimed that KPUD Tangsel and the local elections supervisory committee (Panwaslu) had discriminated against them during the election.

They also said the KPUD had not disseminated information about the election properly, claiming that many eligible voters did not receive background information on the candidates. Thus, many were reluctant to cast their vote.

In response, Subhan said that the KPUD was prepared for anything to come, including lawsuits. He said he respected the candidates'€™ rights in the election, including the right to file a lawsuit.
