The government will not intervene in a corruption case related to the procurement of three quay container cranes in 2010, according to Presidential Chief of Staff Teten Masduki.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named state port operator Pelindo II president director Richard Joost Lino a suspect in the case on Friday evening.
'The government will never interfere in legal matters, especially ones handled by the KPK,' said Teten in Jakarta on Friday as quoted by kompas.com.
He added that the government had the utmost trust in the KPK and fully supported it, as did State-Owned Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno, Lino's boss.
'The government as well as State-owned Enterprises Minister [Rini Soemarno] will support the KPK,' said Teten.
Lino is alleged to have misused his authority to enrich himself in the procurement of three cranes imported from China in 2010.
He stands of accused of violating articles 2 and 3 of Law No. 31/1999 on corruption and Article 55 of the Criminal Code.
Previously, KPK spokeswoman Yuyuk Andriati said the antigraft body had yet to determine the project's real value as the KPK was still investigating the case. (kes)
