The Tour de France will start from the German city of Duesseldorf in 2017.

Tour organizers say it will be the fourth time in the race's century-old history that cycling's showpiece starts in Germany.

London was considered the favorite to host the 2017 race start, but withdrew its bid in September.

The last time the three-week race started from Germany was in 1987, when the Grand Depart took place in West Berlin.

Details of the first stages will be unveiled in January. (kes)(+)
