President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has requested fast preparation for the Indonesian MotoGP Grand Prix as the country is expected to play host for the event in 2017.
"Alternative circuits have to be calculated and decided quickly. [We should] utilize the momentum not only to boost our accomplishment in sports and to build the country's name globally, but also to create a new national tourism magnet," said Jokowi during a limited Cabinet meeting at his office on Monday as quoted by the Presidential Communications Team.
The MotoGP is slated to be held at the Sentul International Circuit in Bogor, West Java.
During the meeting, preparations for the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang in South Sumatra were also discussed, especially with regard to infrastructure development such as venues, stadiums, accommodation and transportation. Jokowi is hopeful that the details regarding development and renovation plans for the arena and venues would no longer continue to be an issue.
"These details are important as the deadline is near. We have to work faster," said Jokowi.
Accompanied by Vice President Jusuf Kalla, Jokowi reportedly asked Coordinating Human Development and Culture Minister Puan Maharani and Youth and Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi to deliver development reports on both the events.
Other ministers and state officials who were seen to be in attendance at the meeting include State Secretary Pratikno, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Presidential Chief of Staff Teten Masduki, Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro, National Development Planning Minister Sofyan Djalil, Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan, South Sulawesi Governor Alex Noerdin and West Java Deputy Governor Deddy Mizwar.
