MyGadget: Yoris Sebastian: Technology for work, fun and relaxation

C

reative consultant and author Yoris Sebastian uses his Android phablet to complete most of his tasks. Yoris, however, makes sure that he does not spend too much time checking on his social media accounts through the phablet.

'€œI use a scheduler app that arranges for me to check social media once a day. I '€˜play'€™ social media only when I am on the road or waiting for a meeting. Therefore, my life is not tied to social media,'€ Yoris said.

Creativity is in Yoris'€™ blood. During his stint as Hard Rock Cafe Indonesia general manager, Yoris created a breakthrough music event called I Like Monday. In 2006, British Council awarded him with International Young Creative Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

The following year he went on to establish OMG Consulting, helping companies to develop fresh ideas. Yoris shares his knowledge and creative spirit by speaking at workshops and writing books.

Aside from the phablet, Yoris regularly uses a Macbook and also a PlayStation 3, which he plays every night before going to bed.

'€œI haven'€™t bought PlayStation 4 because I just need a simple console that helps my mind to relax,'€ he said.

Phablet for work, social media

I spend 70 percent of my time using Samsung Galaxy Note 5. I do many things through the phablet, from reading books, finding new ideas, checking my schedule on Google Calendar, replying to emails and browsing social media in my spare time.

I make handwritten notes in Note 5 during meetings. I also utilize Screen Off Memo that lets me jot down new ideas, even if the screen is off.

The phablet supports almost all of my activities, particularly when I am communicating with my team at OMG Consulting, I rarely go to the office but I can check and approve all my team'€™s PDF files using the phablet.

MacBook for presentation

I use the newest version of MacBook, with 12-inch screen. It weighs 920 grams. I mostly use it to check presentations made by my team but I also use the MacBook when giving workshops about creativity. Mac'€™s Keynote offers stunning designs and animations to deliver an attractive presentation.

Sony PlayStation 3 for relaxation

When my head is full of ideas, I find it hard to sleep. By playing PlayStation, I shift my mind'€™s focus to game only. After one or two games, I tend to feel drowsy.

Apps

I rent 1 TB of space in Dropbox so that all the photos and data are automatically stored in the cloud. I also save all my notes on Evernote as this allows me to access the notes anywhere through different gadgets.

It seems that most things can be done using the Go-Jek motorbike taxi app now. I ride Go-Jek particularly when I am in a hurry to get to a meeting but the traffic is bad.

I read almost all local magazines and newspapers on S Lime, which is available for free on Samsung Note 5 and Note 4.

I buy books and read them on the Kobo e-book reading app, it allows me to highlight text and read books anywhere. Nonetheless, I still buy the physical books of my favorite authors.
