A

glance at some of the tallest skyscraper projects in Asia and the Middle East includes some in Indonesia.

Indonesia is currently the runner-up when it comes to the construction of skyscrapers around the world, according to the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH).

The council revealed that the world'€™s largest archipelago had successfully constructed nine buildings, collectively reaching 1,908 meters in height, in 2015.

As reported by Tribunnews.com, Indonesia came second to China, which successfully built 62 skyscrapers reaching a total height of 15,347 meters, and was ahead of the United Arab Emirates, Russia, South Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Panama and the US.

The United Arab Emirates came in third place with three buildings at 679 meters in total while Malaysia, Mexico, Panama and the US were tied with two buildings each.

The rest of the countries ranked on the CTBUH'€™s list each had one new skyscraper. These countries were Saudi Arabia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, the Philippines, Italy, India, Canada, North Korea, France, Turkey and Vietnam.

The CTBUH altogether listed 106 buildings taller than 200 meters built around the world in 2015, beating the previous year'€™s record of 99 buildings. This added up to a total of 1,040 buildings around the world that were 200 meters or higher.

The number marked a historical record and was a 392 percent increase from the year 2000, when there were only 265 skyscrapers around the globe. Of the 106 built in 2015, 13 were categorized as '€œsupertall'€ structures, or those above 300 meters in height.

The number of new supertall structures was also yet another record. There were previously only 50 at the end of 2010. By 2015, the world had 100 of them.

All of these 106 buildings gathered together total 26,926 meters. They can be found in 21 countries around the world.

RI'€™s tallest building

Indonesia is set to build its new tallest building in the heart of Jakarta. The construction of this 81-floor skyscraper reaching 330 meters in height will be completed in 2017.

Of its 81 floors, 68 will be allocated for retail and office space. The rest will be composed of 180 rooms owned by a notable hotel company. The hotel will have six basement levels and 75 above-ground floors.

Named the Thamrin Nine Tower 1, the building will feature qualities including dozens of escalators and elevators. Some of these elevators will have the unique ability to lift sedans, making the building the first of its kind in the world.

PT Berca Schindler Lifts executive director Hendrikus Hendra Gozali said the building would be able accommodate 25,000 people, so its lifts and escalators required high-quality work.

'€œOur design team is arranging a unique mobility solution that will be a new benchmark in the marketplace,'€ Hendra said as quoted by Bisnis.com.

In charge of managing this multifunctional building is PT Putra Gaya Wahana. Its executive director, Alvin Gozali, said his office was ready to manage the building and its four apartment buildings, two office towers, entertainment facility, luxury hotel, boutique hotel and serviced apartment complex.

Skyscrapers in Asia, Middle East

This year, Dubai will complete work on two supertall-category buildings '€” Marina 101 and The Address Residence The BVLD.

These will ensure Dubai has some of the most iconic buildings and skyscrapers in the world.

According to the CTBUH, the two buildings are among the 10 tallest set to be finished this year.

Marina 101 will have 101 floors and will be 427 meters tall. It is a project of Sheffield Holdings Limited at Dubai Marina. The height will put Marina 101 in fifth place on the list of the 10 tallest buildings to be completed by the end of 2016.

'€œWe hope we can hand over this project by April 2016,'€ Abuali Malik Shroff, general chief of Sheffield Holdings Limited, said as quoted by Kompas.com.

Meanwhile, The Address Residence The BVLD is being built by Emaar Properties. It will consist of 72 floors at 368 meters. The height makes The Address Residence The BVLD the ninth tallest building on the aforementioned top 10 list of 2016.

'€œAll concrete work is finished. Progress in electro-mechanics has reached floor 68. And work on the facades has reached the 71st floor,'€ Emaar Properties wrote on its website.

Emaar Properties is also building two towers and a swimming pool for the project, which is scheduled to be finished by August 2016.

Aside from Dubai, the CTBUH noted that a majority of supertall buildings being completed this year were in China.

The tallest building of 2016 will be the Ping An Finance Center in Shenzhen that will tower at 599 meters and consist of 115 floors. In second place will be the Goldin Finance 117 at Tianjin, which will be 597 meters and will have 128 floors.

Right behind it is the Lotte World Tower Seoul with 123 floors at 555 meters in height. In fourth place is the Guangzhou CTF Finance Center in Guangzhou, at 530 meters with 111 floors.

In sixth place is the Eton Place Dalian Tower 1 in Dalian. It will be 383 meters and will have 80 floors. In seventh spot will be the Federation Towers-Vostok Tower in Moscow with 95 floors standing at 374 meters.

In eighth is the Dalian International Trade Center at Dalian. It will be 370 meters and will have 86 floors. Finally, in tenth spot will be the Hon Kwok City Center at Shenzhen with 80 floors and 329 meters in height.
